Do your hands ever get dry and flaky or tired and achy? Of course, they do! Life is hard on our hands. They are constantly at work, doing things for us from the time we open our eyes in the morning until we fall asleep at night. So, allow us to introduce you to a treatment that will not only leave your hands more soft and beautiful but also relax overworked muscles and soothe stiff, painful joints- Paraffin Wax Hand Treatments!
Paraffin Wax? What’s That?
A solid, colorless wax that comes as a derivative of the oil refining process, Paraffin Wax can be found in many skincare and cosmetic products where it serves as a natural emollient to soften and moisturize the skin. Other such skincare product ingredients you may be familiar with are petroleum jelly and mineral oil. Paraffin also finds uses in the medical field, massage therapy, and the food industry, so you can see that it’s a very important and versatile substance.
How Does It Work?
When hands are dipped into heated Paraffin Wax the warmth increases blood flow, relaxes tense muscles, and decreases joint stiffness. As the surface of the wax cools, it hardens, forming a shell that traps the heat and forces it down into the tissues where it can do its job. The heat also opens pores and allows the naturally moisturizing paraffin to be absorbed more deeply into the skin. The emollient properties of the wax soften the dead skin on the surface allowing for gentle and effective exfoliation as the paraffin is removed at the end of the treatment leaving your hands more soft and supple than they’ve ever felt before.
Is It Safe?
Yes, it is absolutely safe. Paraffin Wax has been around since the early 1800s! Over the years, it has found its way into beauty products, cosmetics, medical treatments and medicine, food recipes, spa treatments, and more, so its safety is well established. Paraffin melts easily at 99° F. It does not need to be heated to a high heat which eliminates the risk for burns. The only precautions we recommend are to not apply the melted wax to deep cuts or open wounds, and use caution with very sensitive skin as this treatment can rarely cause a temporary heat rash.
